Studio Ghibli Layout

During the time I was recovering from my shoulder surgery Meghan and I started watching a lot of the Studio Ghibli movies together. We both have always appreciated the animation and artwork in these Japanese anime movies. There are 22 in all but we only watched 7 of them. I loved doing this with Meghan and we enjoyed figuring out which actors we knew of that were doing the voice-overs for the movies - like Christian Bale in Howl's Moving Castle. I was excited to be able to create a layout of our movie time during a recent Scrapbook with me.

I changed up the sketch in a few ways. I first converted it from 12" x 12" to 8 1/2" x 11" for my current album format. I also changed the photo sizes and went from 2 photo mat strips to just one due to the sizes of my photos. I did change the placement of the title to work more with my photo strip. I went out of the box with this one and used some papers from the retired I Want Candy collection from Close To My Heart for this. It was fun using Halloween themed papers for a non-Halloween layout but I found the colors and patterns from these papers worked perfect with the bright colors in the photos without detracting from them. The title was die cut using the Simple Serif Uppercase Thin Cuts. I created the "film strip" look using a border punch from my stash and the embellishments came also from the I Want Candy collection. 

To create the rolled paper I tore a couple of places on the right-hand side of the paper and rolled back, securing the rolls using Glue Dots to keep them in place.

Since we did watch 7 movies in total and I wanted to keep this to a 1-page layout I added some Flip Flaps to work in the extra photos. I typed up the titles of the movies using the Project Life App on my iPhone and then printed them using my Epson Picturemate PM-400 printer. I love being able to quickly print journaling using this printer and to be able to use regular cardstock in this printer.

Christmas Day 2023 Layout

I realized I have a couple more layouts from 2023 to complete and share. This one is a 2 page layout I did for Christmas Day. We usually have a very quiet Christmas Day here - just the four of us sleeping in, relaxing and then enjoying a delicious meal at dinner time. This year was no exception. I used up my scraps of the Silver Bells collection from Close To My Heart to finish this layout.

I took this 1-page 12"x12" sketch and first converted it to 8 1/2"x11" to fit with my current album size. I modified the photo sizes for the new layout size. I also took this and flipped the sketch over to add a right-hand side page. I added an additional photo with this page. I added a Flip Flap on the left-hand page to hold a couple extra pictures. I added some faux-stitched lines around the photos using a white gel pen and ruler. The embellishments and title are from the sticker sheet with the Silver Bells collection.

What We Ate Layout

As always when we travel I enjoy trying out different foods and this weekend in the Berkshires was no exception. We had fun checking out the local restaurants for lunch and dinner and definitely enjoyed the food offered.

I converted this sketch from 12" x 12" to 8 1/2" x 11" since I am working in this format for most of my projects now. I adjusted the number of photos to work with the 8 1/2" width. I did add some Flip Flaps to this layout as I had a few more photos to scrap. I normally put my Flip Flaps directly on the page and then cut a slit in the Memory Protector to slide it through but with these being so close to the edge I decided to put them on top of the protector. The paper comes from the Change of Scenery Workshop kit. The title is a combination of a font cut on my Cricut and some letter stickers from my stash. I added some of the coordinating embellishments from the kit to complete the layout.

Back to School Layout

Catching up over the next couple of days with sharing recent layouts I did during some Scrapbook with me events. The first one I want to share is this one I did for when we brought Nicole back to her college campus in January after she took a year off medical leave. 

The inspiration for this layout came from this sketch from Scrapbook Challenges that I found on Pinterest.

I dug into my stash of the In Full Bloom collection for this layout and loved how perfect these colors and patterns work with the photos. I added some faux-stitching with a White Gel Pen to frame the main paper area and added a Flip Flap to hold the extra photos.

It's Cold Outside Layout

My latest layout from Wednesday's Scrapbook with me. Our tankless water heater iced over and died during a particularly cold night in February and I knew I wanted to scrapbook the event. I dug into my stash of the Wonderland collection for the patterns for this layout. I am continuing with my challenge to myself to add at least one element from my stash of embellishments, pocket cards and other ephemera to each layout I create for the rest of this year.

This layout was inspired by this sketch from the Scrap Much. You can see this sketch along with others here.

I converted the sketch from 12" x 12" to 8 1/2" x 11" to fit with my 2023 album format. I pulled out my stash of Wonderland and used some scraps of the patterned paper along with some leftover Picture My Life Cards. I added a Flip Flap to show an additional photo as well as the journaling to go along with this event. I added a little bit of twine from my stash on the tag.

To create the title I knew I wanted to play off the ice and cold temps. I die cut the word COLD from Glacier cardstock using the Block Alphabet Thin Cuts set. I sponged some Glacier Exclusive ink along the top of each letter with a blending brush then using Liquid Glass I added the "ice" dripping down the letter from the top. The other title letters were stamped on White Daisy using Lagoon Exclusive Ink and a stamp set from my stash.

I Love NYC Layout

Next layout to share from the New York City trip is this one. I had so many random pictures from the weekend and wanted to document the various sights we saw. 

The inspiration for this layout came from this sketch from Rochelle Spears. You can see this sketch along with others here.

I took this 2-page sketch and created a 1-page layout by just using the left-hand side of the sketch. I also converted it from 12" x 12" to 8 1/2" x 11". The center area was created using zig-zag strips cut from cardstock. The title was die cut using the Slimline and Simple Serif Thin Cuts sets. 

I wanted to keep this to a 1-page layout but had so many pictures that I decided to use Flip Flaps to add more. I put them on the outside of the Memory Protector in such a way as they fold out from each of the photos on the layout.
