Halloween Cards and a Sketch Challenge

Continuing the Halloween crafting fun with these cards I made to send to family and friends. The cards feature the Fa-BOO-lous Collection from Close To My Heart. I am enjoying working with this collection and the images and colors in it.

The cards were inspired by this sketch challenge from the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge Blog. You can see this sketch along with others here.

I knew I wanted to create several cards at one time so once I pulled out my Fa-BOO-lous paper I started to play with the combinations of patterns to use for the cards. I then cut the pieces of cardstock and patterned paper I needed and die cut the embellishments from the Fa-BOO-lous Stamp Set + Thin Cuts.

I stamped the images using Intense Black Exclusive Ink and colored them in with Triblend Markers.

As I assembled the cards I used some Thin 3-D Foam Tape for a couple of the layers to add dimension and then added some Melon Dots to finish each card.

I hope you like the cards. Thanks for stopping by!

Halloween Treat Coffins and a Tutorial

I have been having fun playing with the Fa-BOO-lous Collection from Close To My Heart recently and came up with this coffin-shaped box for giving some Halloween Treats to my family and friends. The box uses patterned paper from the collection along with 1 sheet of cardstock and can be filled with some sweet treats for the holiday.

I am including a link to a downloadable PDF of instructions for this treat box as well as a process video for it at the end of this blog post.  The PDF contains a diagram for cutting the sheet of cardstock into the pieces you will need to create the coffin base and lid.

Cut the patterned paper into 1 3" x 5 1/2" rectangle and 2 12" x 1/2" strips.

Cut the cardstock into 4 3" x 5 1/2" rectangles, 2 4 1/8" x 2 1/4" pieces, 2 2 5/8" x 2 1/4" pieces, 1 2 1/2" x 2 1/4" piece, 1 2" x 2 1/4" piece, 2 4 1/8" x 1 1/4" pieces, 2 2 5/8" x 1 1/4" pieces, 1 2 1/2" x 1 1/4" piece, and 1 2" x 1 1/4" piece.

Make marks along top of rectangles at 1/2" and 2 1/2", along bottom at 3/4" and 2 1/4" and along sides at 2" down from top. Use trimmer to cut away between the marks to create the coffin shape.

Score each side piece at 1/2" along it's length and 1/2" on one side. Make sure to score at the same side for all pieces. Fold along the score lines and cut away the small bottom corner piece from each.

Apply adhesive to bottom and side tabs on each piece as well as along the back of 2 of the coffin-shaped cardstock pieces.

Starting with bottom piece for base (2" x 2 1/4" piece) remove adhesive backing and adhere 1st lower side piece to tab. Continue this by following with 1st upper side, top piece, 2nd upper side piece, and 2nd lower side piece. This will create a long strip as shown.

Starting with bottom piece, remove adhesive backing from tab and adhere to coffin-shaped piece (the one without the additional adhesive). Follow this around the coffin shape adhering each side in turn. At the end tuck the final tab behind the bottom piece.

Remove adhesive from coffin-shaped piece and adhere to inside of base to cover tabs and provide extra stability.

Repeat steps for coffin lid.

Once the coffin is complete, decorate the lid with the patterned paper. Embellish with some fun stamped images from the Fa-BOO-lous Stamp Set and some Melon Dots. Fill with treats and enjoy!

Music Quiz Layout

Another layout done for my Rhine River Trip album during last Wednesday's Scrapbook with me event.  This layout is for a Music Quiz night we took part in during the cruise. Had a lot of fun at this quiz night. You had to name the title, artist, decade and country they artist was fun. Mike and I teamed up and did really well - we actually won 2nd prize which was a nice bottle of white wine which we shared with our dinner table later in the week.

The inspiration comes from this sketch by Traci Reed. You can see this sketch along with others here.

I continued to use the Hope and Kindness Collection for this layout and this time used the cut-apart Picture My Life cards from one of the patterned paper sheets to create some of the tags. The title was die cut using the Slimline Alphabets Thin Cuts set. I added some extra photos using the 3"x4" Flip Flaps. To finish the layout off I added some Black Acrylic Stars and some Silver Sequins from my stash.

I hope you like the layout. Thanks for stopping by!

Paradise Found Layout

Sharing another workshop layout from this weekend's Ready Set Crop Back-to-School weekend scrapbook retreat. I enjoyed creating this layout using the Beach Party Collection from the July-September Catalog from Close To My Heart.

The inspiration for this layout comes from this class layout from Close To My Heart.

I changed up the class layout for the workshop by substituting the stamped images with some digital cuts from the Digital Art Collection that coordinates with the Beach Party collection.

I used various elements from different files in the Beach Party Digital Art Collection to create the title, island, seashell, beach ball, and flip flop shapes. I cut these on my Cricut using the Coordinating Cardstock Pack. I love being able to work with the Digital Art Collection - you can easily take elements from multiple files to combine to create your own artwork with them.

You can see and shop the whole Beach Party Collection on my website - here.

I hope you like the layout. Thanks for stopping by!
