Graduation Cap Card

I find it hard to believe but my niece, Claire, just graduated from high school and will be heading off to college in the fall. We recently went to her graduation party and I made this grad cap fold out card for her. I found the idea on Pinterest and modified it a bit for her.

To make this card I used a piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock cut to 8 1/2" x 4 1/4". I did a gate-fold with it so I scored it at 2 1/8" on either side then folded the sides into the center. I also cut the following pieces of paper:

- 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" Cherry Cobbler
- 3" x 3" Basic Black
- 4" x 4" Basic White
- 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" Basic White
- 2" x 1 1/2" Cherry Cobbler
- 2" x 3/4" Basic Black

In addition I pulled some black glitter paper from my stash to 2 3" x 3" pieces.

I cut one of the 3" x 3" black glitter pieces in 1/2 diagonally along with the 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" Basic White piece. I took 1 of each of these triangles and cut it in 1/2 along the long side. These will be used for the graduation gown "collars".

I adhered the white smaller triangles to the black glitter smaller triangles then to the front side of the gate fold on the card.

I made a tassel using some black and white twine. I wrapped the twine around 3 fingers a few times until I felt like it was thick enough. I used two of the ends to tie together around the top of the loops then cut the other loop to make the fringe. I added an extra piece tied through the top of the loop to hang the tassel with.

I attached the 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" Cherry Cobbler piece to the 3" x 3" black glitter piece. I poked a hole through the center then using a brad from my stash I attached the tassel to the cap. I adhered the 3" x 3" Basic Black piece to the back of the cap to cover the brad.

I folded the 2" x 1 1/2" piece of Cherry Cobbler in 1/2 lengthwise and used this to attach the cap to the card. I used the 2" x 3/4" piece of Basic Black to cover the top 1/2 of the Cherry Cobbler piece.

I stamped Congratulations from the Something Fancy Stamp set in Cherry Cobbler ink on some Basic White and then using a coordinating die cut cut out the sentiment. I added a small piece of Basic Black that I hand trimmed as a mat for the sentiment layer.

This card worked out great and was a fun way to share some graduation wishes with my niecce.

I hope you like this card. Thanks for stopping by!
